It's been a while that my darling and I were separated. Both of us got busy with our lives. New place, new college, new friends. For few months, days flew without letting us a chance to remind the old days.
Though days were running fast, there was something missing. Now, I curse Orkut or FB for taking so long to come into existence. I don't know where she is, she doesn't know where I am. It was past one year that we both moved to the city to do our Masters and haven't seen or spoken to each other.
Just as earthquakes, cyclones and heart attacks come without notice, my darling also doesn't come by telling me. My darling and surprises always go hand in hand. Eleven years back, Hyderabad wasn't as crowded as it is these days. My new roommate cum friend Devi and I were walking. We were waiting to cross the road. We didn't expect that we would want that moment to stay forever.
A two-wheeler zoomed in front us. We didn't notice it until the bike returned back and stopped. I was startled as someone tapped on my back. As I turned back only to find her and let out a BIG scream. Now, not one. There were two screams. Another coming from my darling on seeing Devi who was also darling's classmate in her 12th grade and both of them are seeing each other in four years. Like that, we were back into each other's lives again.
I finished my Masters and my friend was in her final year of Masters as hers was a 3-year degree. My family found no need for me to live in the hostel anymore as I finished college. I was moved to my aunt's place working at their press while pursuing career opportunities. Marriage proposals started pouring in. What else could happen in our incredible India; When people find a girl who completed her Masters and is not engaged?
Duly, I was married in no time and left to Pune with hubby. We got busy with our lives. There was a gap due to these sudden changes in our lives. I kept inquiring about my friend through others as she has been in self-confinement, due to some personal reasons. With dramatic changes going on in my life, I left to the U.S without having a contact of my darling.

Life took a roller coaster ride for the next five years. Never a day passed in the past seven years when I didn't think about her.
To be continued....Hoping to end in another one or two posts.
when i read your story i wish i could see my friends like that so suddenly..out of anywhere..
ReplyDeleteI know..isn't it thrilling? I think after that, I never had any other chance encounters anywhere. All the other friends I found are by my hard work and research :)
DeleteLife is like that. But good friends are those with whom we can connect even after long gaps isn't it?
ReplyDeleteTrue. Bhagyasree..that's what happened with us. this time, you don't want to ask me what happened next? hehe :)
DeleteYou keep the interest alive and keep building the suspense with each post, Latha:)
ReplyDeleteWow..thank you so much, Rahul. You made my day :)
DeleteDon't tell you you met her in the US?
ReplyDeleteHahaha...or else how did you think this dumbo would write the story so interestingly? :P
DeleteYou met and then parted again!! Oh my!! What a story!!
ReplyDeleteTwice till now right? I almost lost count once of how many times I met her and lost her.. :)
DeleteThe beauty of strong bonds is that even when you meet after decades, nothing changes.
ReplyDeleteExactly..that's what happened with us. :)
DeleteEven though I met my friends just as suddenly as you met yours and were meeting each other off and on, but then all of a sudden there was no contact. Now I have only one friend's address, and I have not yet contacted her, for I doubt whether she still would be there. I should just write and see, but I am lazy.
ReplyDeleteSo the suspense is still there in your story.
Yeah..that's what I don't understand Rama. We meet them and suddenly for different reasons, we part with them too at the same speed..hmm..do write and see if you can find your friend..:) And may be we can have a story too..thank you for your wonderful comment.
DeleteNow dont tell me you met again in USA!! Loving every bit of your story, you are keeping the interest going :)
ReplyDeleteYou almost got it right, Arti. Thank you so so much from both of us for your interest in the story. She would feel really happy on seeing all the encouraging comments like this :)
DeleteIt's amazing how quickly we can bond with some people and despite gaps in being together, we can take up from where we left off.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, Corinne. Any day we gel and stick as if we have never parted all our lives. Am blessed to have her as my friend. Thanks a ton.
Deletehmmmmmmmmmmmm , so did she come to usa :) or u went on a holiday and she was there tooo
ReplyDeleteBikram's

DeleteEnjoying 'Me and my darling' thoroughly...It's progressing superbly! Don't feel like reaching the concluding part so soon!
ReplyDeleteI have dedicated a post to you here: http://amitaag.blogspot.in/2012/12/baywatch-8.html
Thanks a lot:)
Umm....now, that's a very endearing comment...:) I am really happy to know you are enjoying the series..honestly, I thought people will not read if I write it for so many episodes. And we had been cutting down huge chunks of stuff that happened in between. Now, you kept my spirits going high. I can't thank you enough for the honor, Amit sir. Also, a million thanks for the honor...I m humbled.
DeleteAnd then you met her in the US? Now even Bollywood movies do not have so many twists and turns! :)
ReplyDeleteLOLll..:-) Thank you, Amit. I never realised the story had so many twists until we started rewinding it :)
DeleteNow in US? I mean how many twists this story has? :D
ReplyDeleteWe too didn't realise the twists until we started to pen them down. :)
DeleteWith each episode the suspense is increasing.Such friends are rare to get.Waiting for the next episode.
ReplyDeleteYour style of writing is unique.Three cheers for you!1
Yes, Usha ji. Such friends are really rare to get. Please bear with me. There might be a slight delay in the next episode. As I might start working from tomorrow. I will post it soon enough.. I am indebted to readers like you who keep me going and encouraging with each post.
Deleteyou know what, Found in Folsom? i feel like i am reading a novel. the only difference is that this is far far better than a novel.
ReplyDeleteand you are not going to finish this in one or two posts. continue this series as long as you can.
You made my day, dear Deb. Though I read your comment two days back, couldn't reply earlier. sorry about the delay. Hahah..that's a very cheering up comment for me to continue the series even longer. I was afraid many readers would be disappointed..but multiple thanks to all of you guys. Love you all.
DeleteOh Awesome one FIF, and u kept me wanting and waiting for next post now!! very well written and yes it reminds me of all those people I have left behind in all these years!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's so sweet of you, Ramya. Thanks for saying that. I am happy that my post could make you recollect all those friends over the years. :)
DeleteSure, we will, Ashwini. If you strongly want to meet someone, you will one day. I met my other friends too like that, but I put in efforts too. :)
ReplyDeleteHi FIF,
ReplyDeleteMy first visit to your site. You write quite good.
I echo your thoughts from this post. I, too, wonder where was Orkut, FB or the likes during the early days. Just like today's generation is growing up on a dose of social networking.
Lovely post. Following you now. :)
Keep posting.
Regards
Jay
