When I started blogging, I had a great plan to make this an all-in-one blog. As such, I don't have the patience, energy and time to maintain a blog for each of my skills..hehe.
Okay! So, here I come up with another simple recipe for you all to experiment with!
Everyone is health conscious these days, not me though. A wild grin..:D. S has replaced rice for Quinoa (pronounced as keen-wa) and eats it with any curry. Now, if you Google you can get plenty of information on the grain. I spare you. :) Though I am the junk eater of the house, you know as a mom it takes some responsibility and creativity to feed your kids healthy. I happened to taste them at a friend's place and she was trying this for the first time. They came out really good and what next? I heard people making Upma, Puliohora with these but never tried them. I made them for Rushi's lunch one day and he gobbled them up all.
All you need is:
1/2 cup Quinoa seeds/grains - Boil them in 1 1/2 or 2 cups of water if you want them completely mushy.
Salt as desired
Green chilies chopped or red chilies powder depending on your taste buds
Coriander chopped
Ginger garlic paste - 1/4 tea spoon
Garam Masala powder - 1/2 tea spoon
(I used Coriander powder as Mr R freaks out if the food is spicy)
Maida or All purpose flour - 1 spoon.
Mix all of the above ingredients together along with the boiled Quinoa.
Make small lemon size balls with your hand and press them into a patty.
Take a pan. Heat it. Add 2 or 3 spoons of oil.
Now place the patties on the pan and flip after a couple of minutes.
Do this until both the sides are slightly red and crispy. They are ready. Serve with green/sweet chutney or tomato ketchup.
Small tip: If the seeds are falling off and the patty is not staying properly or breaking, mix a spoon of Maida in water and keep adding it in few drops to the patty. It acts like a binding factor.
1/2 cup of Quinoa seeds make around 6 patties.
Real simple. Isn't it? Do try them for sure. It won't take more than 15 mins to cook.

certainly worth trying..
ReplyDeleteSure, it is. :)
DeleteThis iis a very easy recipe. I will definitely try them They look yummy. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome. Do try and let me know how you liked them.
DeleteIt looks very tasty. For binding instead of maida you can add bread crumbs, and one boiled potato the patties would never fall apart. The patties are looking good. must have enjoyed making and eating it too.
ReplyDeleteyes, we could try that too..But again, isn't bread maida too? Boiled potato is a good idea, but again that takes time and we cook less potatoes at home. I was wondering if we could add rice flour?
DeleteNot all breads are made with maida, there are breads made out of whole wheat flour, multi grain flour, any of those will be enough for binding, if you don't want to add.
DeleteAnyway yours looks very good
Even we sometimes eat broken wheat instead of rice, we cook in the same manner as we do brown rice, and have it with saambhar, rasam and curds. It is has the same texture/ taste like Quinoa, and is also very healthy, it also gives a nice nutty feel and flavor. When we cook that we tend to eat less as it is very filling.
Deletelooks simple and easy :-))))
ReplyDeleteseems quite simple and easy and healthy too....
ReplyDeletewhen I Googled I got an information that even Idli and dosas can be made from this....Good Lord :-)))
ReplyDeleteWelcome here, Sundar. Good lord, yes..there are all kinds of stuff that could be cooked with them :)
DeleteEasy and healthy recipe. Thanks Prudhvi!
ReplyDeleteThank you girl!!
DeleteIt looks good. You could use bread crumbs; they help binding. Use whole wheat flour bread. How can you give up rice? :) I am all for healthy food but I prefer local food that we've grown up eating.
ReplyDeleteHahaha...B cos Rice is full of carbs...He exercises regularly though. Even I cut down a lot on my rice intake and I don't exercise ;) I prefer healthy food, but just don't like whole wheat bread yaar..for one spoon maida, I wouldn't take the pain of getting wheat bread, drying it and making the crumbs..I mean I appreciate your idea, but just that I am a lazy bones here...hehe
DeleteArre you don't have to dry it. Just chuck the slices in the blender as they are and you have fresh bread crumbs. I always prepare them and it takes no time :). I can understand your concern with rice. I saw how much rice people eat in South. We, however, eat our chapatis and just a little rice to wind up our meal :).
DeleteWorth trying :) but I don't think quinoa is available here in India or is it?
ReplyDeleteI am not sure.. but I have an idea..may be we can replace it with bajra...or cracked wheat...I should try with cracked wheat and see how it comes..
DeleteOooh, the tikkis look awesome, FiF! Am going to make them soon. Thanks for sharing this healthy recipe...:)
ReplyDeleteAunty, do we get them in India? Everyone is asking..am not sure. You are welcome. :)
