A for Apple, B for Ball, C for Cat. Does this ring a bell? I
bet it does. A for Apple slowly transformed into A for Aeroplane or A for
Alligator. As kids, we all had our own fantasies about aeroplanes. If some
wanted to ride on them, some wanted to fly them. I wanted to fly one. I was told I can't be a pilot as I had glasses. I dropped the idea instantly.
However, as the story of my wanting to fly a plane lay
buried under the years, I rode on a plane multiple times in the past decade and
now I get the wonderful opportunity to work for an Airlines company. I was wide
eyed on the first day at work. It was
not like any of the IT companies I have worked in the past. At the end of the
day, friends and family ask me, so how is your new office? I say, “Like an
Airport”. They burst into laughter. Yes, it reminded me so much of the airport. We
had Flight Info. Display Machines, Kiosk machines, Gate Readers where you can check in a
passenger and stuff like that.
Within few weeks after joining work, I would send pictures of Boarding Passes to my friends on their names and they would go, "Oh! Boarding Pass on my name? How did you get it?" Some would go, where am I flying and some would ask, do I get 4 bags checked in free? See, you can be creative in having fun :-)
It is fun booking tickets, cancelling flights, boarding customers, closing flights, disrupting services and a lot more all in the virtual world. After working for six months, I can say that I am totally loving
the whole experience. But, remember I don't get to fly free :-)
This is me at our new building. I was lucky to get a tour of it before opening ;-) |
