S for Sportive!!

I believe that almost everyone of you who reads my blog, also reads The Cyber Nag. Though I had this concept in mind for a while, our most loved Zephyr's L&M Series is the inspiration for me to write it up. When I started blogging, I never meant to write anything about 'S', my dear hubby as he is a very private person. But you know guys, some things are irresistible.

A for apple, B for ball....S for sportive. What if a person who loves sports is not sportive at all? S loves games and sports. Be it cards, caroms, cricket, volleyball, tennis. You name it and he plays it all. Even if he doesn't know how to, he'll make a genuine effort to learn and play well.

As you all know, no wife and husband are alike. In most of the cases, they are opposite poles. We are one such pair. S loves sports and I abhor them. He was a cricket player in his college days. Now tell me, who in India is not a cricket player?

For example, let us take Cards - S, MIL, SIL and rest love to play cards. I don't even know how to hold 13 of them together without them slipping. So, sometimes I do the umpiring by writing the scores for them. If he plays, no one is supposed to look at his cards nor give him any suggestions. Okay buddy, I agree and respect your valuable sentiments here. S says 'drop' most of the times as he doesn't get good cards. What does he do now? He has to wait till other finish the game, right? Nah. he goes to the next players, start looking into their cards and almost plays their game. Now, you tell me, is that fair by any means? When you don't want someone to look into your cards, how can you do the same to others?

S is famous for his short temper, so no one dare to talk. Except me who nags him because I am not a player and he grins...:)

If he loses a game, the accusations: 'He looked into my cards, that's why I lost.' 'I was leading till we changed places, that's when I started getting bad cards.' Sigh!

Volleyball - By now, you must have got a feeling of how sportive our S is. Whichever city or apartment we move to, S always manages to find people with his interests. After we moved to Folsom, he started playing volley ball and registered for the yearly tournament. Now that you want to play a team sport, you have to deal with different kinds of people. Everyone might not be a sport(ive) person like you. And the players are of different age groups. So, they have different energy levels and gaming efficiency.
Our tournament starts. For the first time in our life, we accompany S to his game to cheer him up. S doesn't like to miss one ball. If anyone else misses a hit, that's it, you can see Durvasa emerging on the field. At times, I am scared if he will hit them or get hit by them for his grunting and grumbling. As sportive as S could be, they keep losing each game..:(

Tennis, Carrom, just playing catch with the ball - I spoke to one of our colleagues the other day about playing a game with S. And that set him off . Ahh..didi, I better not play any game with him. He keeps complaining that I didn't play this well, that well and doesn't accept it if he loses. And he just wants to play the part that he knows to play well. Don't tell this to S..okay?

S & Me & games - you all know by now I am not a sports person. As such I don't have S in my name. All I know is few words in English and just play with them here and there. Trying to be an ideal wife and take an active part in my husband's interests, I ask S to play a word game. They could take different forms and shapes.

One could start a word and other makes a word out of the letter that ends the first word or Take a word and see how many small words you can make out of it or the universal Name, Place, Thing, Animal -- a game on which we literally spend all our summer holidays while growing up. In the middle of the game, S abruptly scratches off the whole thing saying, I'm not playing. This happens right when he realises that I am ahead and he is going to lose. Now, tell me what I should do? Had it been my friends or my kids, they would have got a whack on their head for sure.

Thank god, I am not a sports person. You all know the reason by now, don't you?

A very Happy Birthday to the most un-sportive kid of our home. Can there be a better cake than this from his creatively sportive wife? Unfortunately, there weren't pictures from all the sides. One side had a cricket bat and ball, the other a volley ball and net, the third had tennis racquet. :)

P.S: This cake was his last year's Birthday's. :) He's going to have a small surprise dinner tonight.. :)

  2. That is a great birthday gift, I mean featuring him on your blog. If he is anything like the L&M, he would be tickled pink to be made 'famous' by his wife :) They all have their quirks, don't they, and were it not for their creative wives, who would highlight them?

Wish him a very happy birthday and hope to see your gift to him in a subsequent post! And hey, thanks for giving me credit for your post idea. I will pass it on to the L&M, for were it not for him, where would I get such great ideas? :P

    1. Haha...Not pink, he would be red..:P. Oh yes, they all do have their own quirks..exactly, if not we? who would highlight them ;)

Of course the credit goes to you. You know what I learnt after reading about the L&M and the brats, to see light at the end of the tunnel; find humor and not be a fumer at all times.. btw, there is no special gift to him this year..I gave him a blast last yr.. :)
