A noon of morals...

It was a hot April noon. Hubby and his childhood buddy were standing out chit-chatting. The ladies were busy inside preparing lunch. A little boy who was almost four was playing in front of the house. The mom put a word with the dad to keep an eye on him.

Kids are curious Georges. We never know what attracts their attention and when. The boy was running up and down the stairs. Suddenly, he jumps in between the talking men and picks something from the ground. Even before the guys notice, he puts it in his mouth. Feeling as if he has climbed an elephant, the kid euphorically yells, "Dad, look at me". The dad immediately removes it from the kid's mouth and trashes it. You'll wondering what could it be? None other than a burnt Cigarette butt.

The kid is taken inside and dad does not beat him up or get mad. He tries to keep his cool and lecture the kid with all his wiseness. They emerge out of the room like saints who have been enlightened under the Bodhi tree.

After a while, the whole family gets ready to have their lunch. Within a few minutes, the kid blurts out: "You should never pick anything from the ground. You should buy a new one." Everyone burst into fits of laughter. Only the dad knew what he explained and the kid knew what he understood. So, the moral of the story is...

The kid is the son of yours truly and hubby my dearest better half.

This is written for IndiBlogger and Colgate's "The moral of the story is...." contest.

    1. Hahaha....That was when he was four, aunty. Now, he looks at people who smoke with contempt. Coming to the father's sermon, I still wonder where it went :)

  11. Mostly we take our children for granted. We don't notice that they notice a lot and remember a lot. Either we treat them as adults and give them all liberties or we treat them as minions with no freedom. The children closely observe their parents and follow their manners, speech, and habits. Many times they are our gurus.

    1. Welcome here Neelakantan.. You are right. Kids observe a lot and we don't notice that. And it's true, they follow what we speak, how we speak, how we act..so, we need to set right morals for them. :)
